Dancer Conditioning

Taught by: Miss Emilie

Acrobatic Arts: Level 2 Certified Teacher

BCA: Level 2 Coach

This class is a favourite, taken by most of our students. Offering the opportunity to delve deeper into strength and flexibility training, whilst building a repertoire of stand-out dance tricks. Children can join once they have started school. Dancers are grouped on individual ability, over age. Each child works towards their own individual progressions within the world renowned Acrobatic Arts programme.

Please note: This is a training class for dancers, therefore, ALL students attending acro must also take a dance class with Eminence Dance Academy - we recommend core subjects (jazz technique or ballet) and a choreography class (commercial or lyrical).

WHAT IS THIS CLASS?

A full body conditioning class for dancers, enabling them to master top dance skills and "wow" moves such as walkovers and aerials. The EDA dance conditioning classes are not dance training classes. We use this class to train and prepare dance students to perform to a high standard, as well as learn how to tumble gracefully within the dynamics of a dance routine. Cheerleading is introduced at level 4.

IS IT THE SAME AS GYMNASTICS?

It is important to note that Acro Dance is NOT the same as Gymnastics or Acro Gymnastics.

Simply put, gymnastics is a sport, dance is an athletic art form.

There is a need to approach acrobatic arts skills differently. Gymnasts are expected to prepare, tumble and finish. While acro dancers are expected to seamlessly incorporate the skills into a dance performance. In fact, in a well choreographed acro dance routine, the audience shouldn't expect the skill at all. The other very important difference is, acro dance is performed on a hard stage, without mats. While gymnasts have the advantage of a sprung floor, allowing for much more high risk tumbling and landings.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO ATTEND DANCE CLASSES AS WELL AS ACROBATIC ARTS CLASS?

Yes. Dance training is essential to the success of any acro dancer, due to the level of artistry required. The weekly acrobatic arts training works on developing strength and flexibility required to achieve high level skills, therefore less time allocated to dance and choreography. Taking dance class is fundamental to the success of an acro dancer, ideally acrobatics arts should be accompanied by ballet and/or jazz technique.

Acrobatic Arts follows guidelines of safe dance practice, skills may take longer to achieve, but will be of the highest standard when mastered. Dancers train skills on both sides of the body, offering freedom within choreography and seamless transitions from any angle. If your child is looking to just learn tricks and flips, we can recommend a number of fantastic gym clubs in the local area or joining parkour.
